Welcome, Namaste Progress Fitness & Aquatic Centre - Yoga Studio
Yoga is a Sanskrit word derived from the Sanskrit root
“yuj” which means to connect, join or balance.
Yoga is the oldest system of personal development
encompassing body, mind, and spirit. The origin of Yoga
goes back more than 5000 years. This valuable science
developed by the ancient sages of India, and modified
through generations, took many years to spread around
the world. In the modern times, the value of Yoga is
being increasingly recognized for general health, and
its preventive and curative effects.
Yoga, a Sanskrit word for ŽunionŽ, means an experience
of oneness or union with your inner being (self). This
union is the mind uniting with the body and breath to
attain a higher level of consciousness. The integrated
approach of mind and body control leads to ultimate
physical health and happiness together with the
achievement of mental peace and tranquility.

beginners or a subtle refinement of practice for the
ongoing student. Students will learn the fundamentals
of yoga postures, awareness of breath, meditation and
yoga philosophy. The supportive environment of this
class will provide the necessary foundation to develop a

repeat as often as you like as you build strength and
stamina. Please see the weekly class descriptions posted
on the yoga studio bulletin board.

Teen Yoga:
6-Weeks, Preregister (All levels)
Join us for a fun and focused way to build personal
awareness and confidence. We will explore postures,
breath awareness and meditation in a relaxed
atmosphere. The practice of Yoga can be a phenomenal
tool to help deal with the challenges of life. Come to
your mat; come to the practice! All levels are welcome.
Family Yoga:
6-Weeks, Preregister (All levels)
Family Yoga
invites parents (of course grandparents or care-givers
are welcome too) and children ages 5 and older to
practice yoga together. Parents and children will
practice side by side exploring partner poses, having
fun with imagery, stories, physical movement, breath and
relaxation techniques. This is perfect for those with little
or no background in yoga. This class provides many
benefits for you and your child, physically, mentally
and emotionally. Please bring along your personal yoga
mats.
Meditation Workshop:
Preregister (All levels)
Watch for our monthly (fall and winter only) 1-hour
“Introduction to Meditation” workshop where we will move
into guided relaxation and explore basic meditation
approaches. We will become comfortable in a seated
meditation posture on the floor or in a chair. Please
bring a firm cushion and small mat. Please preregister
at the front desk. Previous meditation experience is not
needed for this workshop.
Level 1: Restorative Yoga –drop-in (Option to preregister for 6-week
session)
Restorative Yoga is a
practice of being, rather than doing, helping to relieve
the effects of stress, fatigue and bring the body, mind
and spirit into harmony and balance. Restorative
yoga uses props to support postures for deep
relaxation. Most of us live in a chronic state of
stress, compromising our body's capacity to heal
itself. The antidote to stress is relaxation; this
class promotes a deep level of rejuvenation; beneficial
to everyone. Please bring three wool or cotton
blankets. Wear warm, loose fitting clothing.
Level 1:
Gentle: Drop-in (Option
to preregister for 6-week session for Monday’s class)
Gentle Yoga
is an easy approach to a yoga practice that is slow and
steady, quieting the nervous system to promote healing
and relaxation. All levels will enjoy this peaceful,
rejuvenating class. Emphasis is placed on joining
breath with mindful movement allowing you to move as
your body permits. Modifications are suggested to
accommodate individual abilities. We will explore common
areas of tension and yoga postures that help undo holding patterns,
movements that strengthen core muscles to help support
the spine, weight-bearing postures, improving balance
and breathing and relaxation. Note that our Monday
class is designed especially for ‘mature bodies’.
Level 2:
Hatha: Drop-in class
This is an uplifting practice that increases muscle
tone, improves flexibility and concentration, detoxifies
the vital organs and allows deep relaxation. This gentle
to mid-paced class focuses on using the breath in
combination with the yoga postures (asanas) to allow the
body to open and release tension, tightness and stress.
This class will encourage development of strength,
balance, co-ordination and flexibility of mind, body and
spirit. Postures
flow in a way that builds heat, strength and endurance
while lengthening and rejuvenating the body’s muscles
and connective tissues. In this dynamic and balanced
practice a deep connection between breath, body and mind
is cultivated.
Level 3: Hatha ‘Advanced’ (a.k.a. Power):
Drop-in class.
This is our most advanced physical challenge; a lively,
energetic, flowing class synchronizing breath with
movement, building strength and flexibility. Improve
your balance, endurance, posture, and overall
conditioning while cleansing the body and calming the
mind. The sequencing will be creative to make the class
unpredictable and a lot of fun.
Poses may be held longer for deeper penetration both
physically and mentally. Breath is integrated with
movement resulting in a more focused concentration and
heightened spiritual experience.
Inversions, arm balances, and binds may be included in
the practice; modified versions will always be given.
Please honor your level, this class is not for new
practitioners. Please bring a towel.
Group Meditation: drop-in (All levels)
During this weekly sitting, we will be gently guided
into silent meditation. This sitting is suitable for
attendees of our “Introduction to Meditation” workshop
or for anyone having meditation experience. Inquiries
are always welcome. Please bring your meditation
cushion and mat (wooden floor). Chairs are available if
requested. Arrive early to settle in and to also
arrange for a chair, if needed.
